1988 Housing of 1987 Seagrave Quint

May 7, 1988

1988 West Reading Police Chief Jack Crawford leads the parade.

Wyomissing Fire Department's old Mack engine.

Wyomissing Fire Department's old Snorkel truck.

The Centerport Band provides a thrilling fanfare to herald the arrival of the West Reading Fire Department!

Then-Junior firefighters Mike Murray (left) and A.J. Geiss (right), in old-time WRFD uniforms, bear the fire company's banner, which dates back farther than any of us can remember.

Then-President E. David Wenger feels the breeze on his face as he gets chauffered through the borough in this 1988 Jeep with the top down.

Our old 1981 Chevrolet squad leads our apparatus through the parade route.

Following the squad came the 1975 Seagrave engine. Eddie "Pop" Knouse waves to spectators from the jumpseat.

The late Eddie "Pop" Knouse was a member of our fire department for many years, and took great pride in participating with our fire company in this and many other parades. We're glad he got to see one last apparatus housing in West Reading before he passed away. Rest in peace, Pop.

The reason for the parade and celebration: Our "new" (back then) 1987 Seagrave Quint truck.

Then-Fire Chief Rodney Baer was proud to have driven the Truck through its housing parade.
